Castles in the sky
We used to live in a castle in the sky. It was beautiful and magical - a pastel-coloured dream.
One day we woke up from the dream and the castle was gone. We wandered for so long trying to find a new home, but nothing lived up to our beloved castle.
They say, though, that home is where the heart is and so we persevered, comforted by the knowledge that wherever we ended up at least we would be together.
We eventually made our home in a quiet valley. After searching for so long it was like paradise and we began to build an estate, a future, a home.
We came to love our valley which had its a beauty and magic all of its own.
I never forgot our castle, though. Sometimes I dream of it and when I wake up for a few moments I think I am still there, frolicking amount the clouds. But then the moonlight streams thruogh the window and I see the shadows cast by the tree outside and I my heart is broken anew as I remember that I will never go home again .
We have children now, and they play in the sunlight and roll on the grass and the air rings with the sound of their joyous laughter. This valley is the only home they have ever known.
They are happy, but as I watch them prance and gambol my breast fills up with a sense of desolation and pity at the fact that they will never know the true homeland of their people, the birthplace of their elders…
…the castle in the sky.
